Millennial’s aren’t really surprised anymore because we know the world we’ve been living in and the people we’ve been sharing it with. We set aside our ideas and predictions – knowing the day would come where it all falls apart, but we would be ready…

Corruption, destruction and world wide hate,
ripping everything to pieces and enjoying the scene.
The people watch each other and laugh in despair
while the next generation suffers their pain.
Jealousy, greed and want for control,
narrow minds follow paths of isolation untold.
Caught in the lines of prejudice and fear,
these people of shame will be left alone here.
Deception, intrusion and constant illusions,
this naïve nature will give them protection.
Day to day living but lacking its truth,
they could look at old pictures but see there’s no use.
When paranoia and angst is all that we feel;
violence and anger will be all that we see.
This world we know will have made its last stand,
and the easy living we endure will suddenly end.

I wrote this when I was in high school, around 2006 at 16 – too bad it’s ringing so true to the current reality we are in. I was writing based on how I thought things were at the time and certainly heading for the future. It seems these concepts only perpetuated to be worse over time. Ignoring all of the warning signs and anyone speaking to what was going on, I guess. But alas, sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Once we recognize what is happening and face it, we can start to change things to be better. The clichés are true, it starts with us and you have to take care of your own yard first before picking at someone else’s.

Might we finally choose better for our future?
